Department Head Opening
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The department has a broadly-based research portfolio and is organized into six areas of concentration--biomaterials, ceramics, electronic materials, metals, polymers, and computational materials. The department is one of the largest in the nation with approximately 24 full-time faculty members, 275 undergraduate students, and 164 on-campus graduate students, and offers degrees at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. The Head is a tenured full professor and the chief executive officer of the department, reporting to the Dean of the College of Engineering, and has responsibilities for leading the faculty in the development of research, teaching, and public service, and for administrative, budgetary, and promotion decisions. The search committee seeks a distinguished scholar with exceptional leadership potential.
This search is open and the position has a desired start date of June 16, 2010. To ensure full consideration, applications and nominations should be received by December 15, 2009, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
