Become a materials expert.

Materials Science and Engineering (MatSE) at the Grainger College of Engineering embodies the understanding, design fabrication and engineering of materials that underpin and drive the modern world. Material scientists and engineers develop strong research and testing analyses, conduct quality control procedures and construct the world with materials, manipulating them to drive technology, sustainability and scientific progress.

MatSE graduates have diverse career opportunities in various industries such as chemistry, aerospace, ceramics, plastics, mechanics and more. The demand for materials is consistently on the rise and there is a projected 6% increase in job growth and need for determined MatSE professionals in the field.

What is MatSE?

MatSE students gain a fundamental understanding of the science of materials and are equipped to pursue careers in developing materials for space exploration, renewable energy, drug delivery and more. Our graduates also have experience with computational tools and techniques including machine learning, data mining and quantum computing.
